TRANSPORT FOR THIS PLAN

This plan assumes a bicycle.

A confident rider can use a bicycle for this active loop. Bone Island Rentals offers bicycles. Check in first at 424 Greene Street, Key West. Confirm the bicycle collection location and handover process with the operator; the golf-cart pickup process does not establish bicycle collection. Confirm bicycle-specific handover and fit. A separate bicycle-only rental is directly on Pier B, so compare pickup locations before choosing.

Return sequence: finish sightseeing, return the bicycle to the confirmed location, complete handover, then walk to the crew-directed Pier B entrance. Keep the separate ship buffer.

A good fit for: Confident cyclists who can manage street riding; not a first cycling lesson.

Allow for walking your bicycle in busy areas and walking inside the park.

A little island. Real distances.

These curated plans stay on the west end. The island view shows scale; the detail shows your stops. It does not add a cross-island excursion.

  2. Fort Zachary Taylor70 min
  3. Cuban Coffee Queen · Clinton Square building35 min

Return to Pier B reference only. Return the rental at its separately confirmed location first; that location and its connecting leg are not mapped. 50 min return + 60 min extra buffer.

Numbered markers locate sourced premises or activity areas, not verified entrances or parking. Sequence lines join street/square references and do not establish turn-by-turn, cycling or legal driving directions. Follow current signs and the operator’s legal route. The Fort line ends at a Howard England Way road junction; its numbered marker shows the fort area, not an entrance or beach access. The Pier B origin dot identifies the approximate dock area, not a verified cruise gate or pedestrian exit. Follow your assigned crew-directed access. This map illustrates the Bone Island check-in option; the separate bicycle-only Pier B option is not plotted, and bicycle collection must be confirmed. The dashed box locates the enlarged detail. 1. 01

    PICKUP 0 min–40 min after leaving Pier B / 40 min

Choose, collect and check your bicycle

A separate bicycle-only rental option is directly on Pier B. Bone Island Rentals also offers bicycles; for Bone Island, go first to customer check-in at 424 Greene Street, Key West. Confirm the bicycle collection location and handover process—golf-cart pickup instructions do not establish the bicycle process. The existing walk to check-in is roughly four minutes / 0.2 mile, an estimate only. Choose an option that fits every rider and this 40-minute collection slot, including fitting, a brake and lock check, and handover. Confirm the rental-return location and deadline before riding; shorten sightseeing if collection takes longer.

  2. TRAVEL 40 min–1h 5m after leaving Pier B / 25 min

    Ride to Fort Zachary Taylor

Ask the shop for a comfortable legal bicycle route to Fort Zachary Taylor, 601 Howard England Way. The published visitor approach uses Southard Street through Truman Annex and the signed park entrance toward Howard England Way. This 25-minute allocation includes entry and locking, not a measured riding time. The park lists bicycle racks and a cyclist/pedestrian entry lane; follow current signs and dismount around crowds or wherever required. Paid park admission and any queue are separate from the rental. Check current alerts before committing.

  3. 02

    STOP 1h 5m–2h 15m after leaving Pier B / 70 min

Trade the saddle for the shoreline

Choose shoreline time or the historic fort as the main experience within these 70 minutes. The fort offers cannon, gun ports and interpretation of the island’s coastal defense; the shore offers a picnic or water-view break, with swimming only if conditions suit. Sand and pebbles make this different from a uniformly soft beach. Toilets, showers and water-refill facilities are listed by the park; confirm which are operating. Include changing and the walk back to your locked bicycle in the slot. If entry or conditions disappoint, shorten or omit the park visit and return toward the existing Old Town meal; do not add another beach.

  4. TRAVEL 2h 15m–2h 35m after leaving Pier B / 20 min

    Return toward Old Town

Return on a route appropriate to every rider’s confidence and current signs. Walk crowded blocks when needed. The existing 20 minutes are a planning allocation, not a speed claim. Ask the operator how the northern Old Town meal fits your separately confirmed return location; no new cycle route is certified here.

  5. 03

    BREAK / FINAL ACTIVITY 2h 35m–3h 10m after leaving Pier B / 35 min

    Lunch, water and a rest

For a named northern waterfront rest, Cuban Coffee Queen at Clinton Square, 291 Front Street #6, lists dine-in and air-conditioning, plus coffee and sandwiches. Confirm where you may legally secure the bicycle without blocking access; venue rack space is not promised. Service, water and the approach must fit this 35-minute stop. If busy, use quick service on the return route and start the bicycle handover earlier rather than using the 50-minute return allowance or 60-minute ship buffer for lunch.

  6. RETURN 3h 10m–4h / 50 min

Return the rental, then reach Pier B

Allow 50 minutes for the ride to your confirmed rental-return location, inspection and handover, then the final walk to Pier B. Rental return and all-aboard are separate deadlines. If heat, traffic comfort or rider pace slows the day, cut optional activities and begin the return earlier; keep the separate 60-minute ship buffer.

    1. Return the bicycle

Reach your confirmed return location, secure the bicycle and complete inspection and handover. Meet the operator’s return deadline.

    2. Return to Pier B

Walk to the crew-directed cruise entrance. Follow your ship’s instructions and keep the separate 60-minute buffer intact.

  7. BUFFER Final 60 minutes

    Keep your buffer intact

Aim to be at Pier B before this buffer starts. Allow for access, queues and boarding. Follow your cruise line’s official all-aboard instructions and any earlier reporting time.

Before you commit

This plan is for a conventional bicycle and confident street riders. It is not a protected cycle route. Check the fit, brakes and lock before leaving, plan for heat and water, and confirm a route everyone is comfortable riding. If any rider is uneasy, choose a shorter walk. Cut optional activities rather than reducing the ship-return buffer.

These are editorial time budgets, not guaranteed travel or queue times. Begin earlier or shorten the day if your pace, weather or actual rental location needs more time.
